SB3, “Small Box 3”, a three-dimensional blue and gold painting.
Eric Robin’s SB3 “Small Box 3” is a three-dimensional composition in crumpled square paper.
In this painting the artist uses a carefully prepared matte paper: gilded, oxidized and painted. He cuts, folds and crumples with precise gestures. He glues in layers, creating a composition in relief full of subtlety, where the play of shadows accentuates the contrasts. It is in the vibrancy of the textures that one recognises the artist’s formal signature.
The simple abstract structure of the square combines harmoniously with the random and organic form of the folding.
We like Eric Robin’s boxes which accentuate the precious effect of his crumpled papers. The duality between the crumpled paper and the impeccable final composition is particularly striking. As if in a jewel box, the paper becomes a jewel. It can be displayed on the wall or on a stand, as a solo or diptych, and above all, a maximum of light is sought to take advantage of the vibrancy of the golds.
With SB3 there is no risk of annoying reflections, the optical glass is there … The light and the location will be the best friends of this unusual object. It would make a beautiful diptych with SB1
