“Corniche Kennedy”, Marseille in poetry.
This map of the “Corniche Kennedy” in Marseille restores with poetry the atmosphere of this district of the city of Marseille. Amandine Maria delicately traces the emblematic places along the road of the corniche. The Circle of swimmers, the beach of Catalans or the valley of Auffes give rhythm to the walk.
One is fascinated by the quality of the details transcribed in ink and watercolor. The houses clustered in a delicious cameo of colors facing the big blue. But also the vernacular architecture of the districts which adjoin the towers. Or the pointus and the boats of the small port. Everything is there to immerse us in the multiple flavors of the Phocaean city.
Finally, we take the time to read the notes written by the artist to better restore the frontal encounter between the urban landscape and the sea: “a balcony above the port”, “houses and white rock”, “live upstairs”, “go down there”. These textual elements are written directly on the drawing, in Indian ink. They testify to the walk that the artist tells, scandalize the stages.
The choice of ink and watercolor paint contributes to the delicacy and meticulousness of the drawing, simultaneously realistic and poetic.
“Corniche Kennedy” is another beautiful way to travel in the South of France! This drawing would form a nice diptych with “The sea wall“, of the same orientation and format.
