“En Gil” is a painting by the contemporary artist Clotilde Philipon. The panoramic format of the painting lends itself particularly to the treatment of the maritime landscape. The composition of the painting, its perspective lines towards a calm horizon, give it fullness and balance. This unusual natural site benefits from an incredible luminosity.

The sea cliffs have inspired many great painters, and are perfect sites for artists to explore the effects of light. In front of this landscape painting and the arch of Gil, one thinks inevitably of the cliffs of Etretat whose fame was increased by the paintings of Claude Monet, Gustave Courbet, Eugène Delacroix or Eugène Boudin.

Clotilde Philipon’s pictorial work transcribes this unique moment of peace and we are sent to Minorca. The artist, who has ties to the island, returns regularly to this landscape which gives way to changing lights and colours depending on the time of day.
