“Sainte-Victoire “Here is elsewhere”” is a contemporary drawing by the cartographic artist Amandine Maria.

It comes from a series on the Sainte-Victoire mountain, subject of more than 80 works by Paul Cézanne. It was he who made it a character, a muse, a real obsession. He frequently evoked in his correspondence his relationship with this mountain, which became mythical thanks to him. All his life as an artist he tried to capture it in its essence and complexity, touch after touch. The Montagne Sainte-Victoire has never ceased to inspire artists.

In her series of drawings of the Sainte-Victoire mountain, Amandine Maria proposes a vision of cartographer and poetess. She borrows from the cartographic tradition the outline of the sketch, which cuts the silhouette of a mountain range and informs the names of summits. The artist adds textual comments that accompany this delicate and dynamic outline. She paints mostly details: beeches, olive trees, oaks and pines. Tongues of land, rivers, fields, pieces of sky.
