“The offering – uk” is a painting by James Cochran aka Jimmy C. He painted it in his London studio using spray paint on canvas.

“The offering – uk” takes up a huge mural created by James Cochran in June 2018 at the Infinito festival in Cascais (Portugal), which aims to beautify the city’s various neighbourhoods.

In this colourful mural, a woman drips water onto the ground from a glass bowl, and the water turns into a river. The drip painting technique, which consists of dripping paint, is a fitting accompaniment to the theme of beneficial and vital water.

In this symbolic scene, we find the particularities that contribute to the style of this extraordinary street artist. A mixture influenced by the techniques of pointillism, drip painting, or aboriginal painting. But also by references to the history of art, from impressionism to graffiti, via social realism.

Observe the technique of the juxtaposition of colours, which is reminiscent of Seurat or Pissarro. Juxtaposed touches of colour will create new colours in the viewer’s eye. Above all, as with the Impressionists, the form is not in the drawing and its outline, but in the work of the strokes and the colour. The movement of the character, captured in the present moment, is finally accentuated by the flow of the paint. This is indeed one of the artist’s signatures. James Cochran’s painting can be appreciated differently depending on whether one approaches to distinguish the technique, or moves away to gain in sharpness.
