“Twins in oilskin – 20×30” is part of the “Insolite Insulaire” series by young contemporary photographer Aurélia Faudot.
In 2021, Aurélia Faudot will produce her “Insolite Insulaire” series. In Belle-Île-en-Mer, the artist from Aix-en-Provence will confront the universes of emblematic characters with evocative landscapes. It’s a series of astonishing photographs, somewhere between artistic mise-en-scène and reportage.
Belle-Île-en-Mer is one of her home ports, where she grew up, spending summers with her family. It’s where she developed her passion for photography, photographing her family and friends on Belle-Île from childhood. When the years and life separate them, the pretext of a photo shoot is an opportunity to get together and strengthen ties.
The characters in these images are a fine mix of seasonal workers, locals, families and friends who play along with the artist’s game to form a small tribe of quirky islanders.
This photographic work questions our relationship with everyday life and convention. It invites us to have fun with banal situations that become extraordinary. The island, a place of utopian imagination, is an invitation to fantasy, to play and to dream. An exhibition in 7 pictures to lift anchor, travel a little and forget about being serious.
As for the press, this same series was chosen by the Courrier International photo department to illustrate its special pages on “Brittany as seen by the foreign press” in the July 2023 issue. Definitely an artist to watch!
“Twins in oilskin – 20×30” also available in 40×60 format, in a 60×80 mat.
