“London – 1” is a work on paper in Indian ink by Duytter.

The composition, the framing, the light, the banality of an urban scene taken ‘on the spot’ and fixed for eternity, everything in Duytter’s washes is reminiscent of the photographic aesthetic.

Look at the perspectives, the shadows, the row of wooden tables in front of the snack bar.

And yet, if you look closely, each line remains in the rough, far from photographic precision.

It is precisely this duality that makes Duytter’s paintings so charming, like “London – 1”.
